Lightweight Jaguar next year

16 May 2002: Jaguar is to launch an all-aluminium XJ saloon early next year. The new top of the range model will be longer than the current model, but will be considerably lighter.

It will be aimed at a market dominated by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and is likely to have a 2.5-litre V6 diesel in its engine line-up, making it the first diesel Jaguar. At the other end of the scale, a 400bhp supercharged petrol engine version will top the range.
