06 April 2004: Sebring recently became the venue for another Audi whitewash, as R8s powered by FSI direct injection V8 engines filled the top three positions.
The UK based Veloqx Motorsport car driven by Le Mans winners Allan McNish, Frank Biela and Pierre Kaffer, came home first while the other Veloqx run car with among others Johnny Herbert at the wheel came in third.
At an average speed of over 110 mph and covering 1,295 miles, the R8 notched up a string of records including Audi UK's first international win.
It also became the first car to win the Sebring 12 hours five times in a row, with Frank Biela winning three times to join Phil Hill, Mario Andretti, Olivier Gendebien and Hans Stuck as the only drivers to achieve this feat.
The win comes fifty years after another UK driver, none other than Sir Stirling Moss, came out on top in this America's top sportscar race.
