Audi mixes the metals

26 March 2004: Using a mixture of steel and aluminium in the new Audi A6's frame has reduced the weight of the new version of the car by 30kg.

Almost half of the €260 million investement in the new car has gone into a new body manufacturing building and other facilities used to create the frame.

The car goes on sale in Europe in May and Audi that sales reach 160,000 units a year once the car is at full production in 2005. The current model sells around 150,000 annually.
