25 November 2002: Audi's TT sports coupe is to get a howling new 3.2-litre V6 engine outputting 250bhp, along with a new automatic sports transmission based on motor-racing technology. It will also have Audi's quattro 4WD system.
The new version of the car - Audi sells more than 100 a year in Ireland of the standard vehicles - is likely to have a relatively small buyership here, but it will certainly upgrade the image of the car on a global basis.
The Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission is a six-speed unit which can be used either manually or with full automatic capability.
The Audi TT 3.2 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and fuel consumption is 28.8mpg.
Visually, the 3.2 version will have amodified rear spoiler and the rear apron with enlarged inlet openings and lateral gills. The larger rear spoiler further reduces rear-end lift, in line with the performance gain of the TT 3.2 quattro.
The front apron now incorporates larger openings to cover the higher demand for cooling air, without the aerodynamic properties being affected. The drag coefficient remains unchanged at Cd = 0.32.
The TT 3.2 quattro in addition has xenon lights as standard with range control and titanium-coloured headlight trims. Inside, as well as the shift paddles on the steering wheel this version is distinguished by a gearbox gate in polished aluminium.
The market launch is scheduled for mid-2003.
