31 July 2001: The 50bhp Daewoo Matiz is the winner of the ‘Best Budget Car Category’ in Auto Express’s New Car Honours.

Opposition included Renault’s Kangoo Kar and Seat Arosa.

Auto Express said: “The Matiz is at its best in town where its minimal turning circle and narrow frame make every journey a hoot. And, thanks to its compact dimensions parking is much easier. However, it isn’t only the way the Matiz performs through town and on the open road that won over our test team this year.”

With a comprehensive list of standard equipment, Auto Express said the Matiz is excellent value for money and residual values are among the strongest in its class.

Since its launch in January 1999, the Matiz has sold over 3,000 units in the Irish market. TW
