Scope for new SUV at GM Daewoo

04 March 2003: GENEVA MOTOR SHOW The Daewoo Scope concept at Geneva this year indicates the importance which this fledgling new company (albeit with the resources of the world's biggest carmaker behind it) sees in getting together a full line-up of modern cars.

The Scope is a crossover/SUV with a coupe-type styling when viewed from the side, and a butch front end reflecting its all-terrain ability in the minds of its designers.

The rear side doors are hinged at the back, which allows the designers to eliminate the B-pillar, and ease of access is thus made easy.

A small but significant feature is the single remote control which operates the locking system, the ignition, and the entertainment/communication system.

The Scope is powered by a 6-cylinder 156bhp 2.5-litre transverse engine from GM Daewoo's existing range, and the car's existence in concept form is a direct statement that a new self-developed SUV is coming down the line for the company.
