Honda invests in home hydrogen research

21 May 2002: Honda is helping to develop home-based generators which produce hydrogen fuel so drivers don't have to fill up at stations. The move is aimed to encourage would-be buyers of hydrogen vehicles who worry about the limited number of places to refuel.

Honda is teaming up with New York firm Plug Power to carry out research into the home stations, which could use natural gas to provide heat, hot water and electricity to the home, while also producing hydrogen for a fuel-cell vehicle.

The only exhaust emissions from hydrogen-powered cars is water vapour.
