JAZZ

Honda's Jazz aims to march with the supermini saints (Aug 01)

Honda's new Jazz, which debuts at Frankfurt and goes on sale in Europe early next year, is without doubt one of the most important launches for Honda on this side of the world, writes Bill Trapman. It will give the marque its first real contender in a market dominated by Ford's Fiesta and VW's Polo. At 3.8 m in length, the 5-door Jazz falls at the upper end of the B-segment. It features a unique centrally mounted fuel tank ensure a roomy interior more like that of a C-segment contender. Full Story.

Lets have Jazz
The original Honda Jazz was a rather small, basic little runabout that found favour with few Irish motorists, writes Hugh Maguire. Whilst it suited the Japanese market the Irish motorist wanted something more substantial. However, in name at least the Jazz has returned, but as a completely new and actually very impressive compact car. Full Story.

CIVIC

Radical chic for new Civic (Oct 00) - John Reilly

Civic charts new course (Dec 00)

Honda's Civic programme, the most ambitious undertaken yet by the Japanese company - building five radically new and totally different body styles across three continents - has begun in a blaze of glory, writes John Reilly. The first new Civics into production, the superbly-equipped, four-door saloon, the five-door hatchback and the Stream MPV, have collectively garnered the prestigious "2000 - 2001" Japanese Car of the Year Award. more

New Civic will change minds (Mar 01)

He had no idea it was like that, writes Eddie Cunningham. He'd sat, twisted, and turned in it - did everything except drive it. I suspect he has one bought as you read this. It is a different sort of car altogether. Don't think of a neat hatchback in the traditional Civic mode. Think sleek, sort-of-tallish, long hatchback with an unusual design that blurs the lines between mid-size MPV and nifty estate. A long way from our traditional Civic perceptions. full story

Honda makes a Civic bet on its future (Apr 01)

This is the Honda that will decide the company’s future, writes Brian Byrne. From a quality and technological point of view, the Civic in various generations laid a reputation which many other marques envy. And for the past 20 years it has been the company’s best-selling car around the world. But since the demise of the original CRX Coupe version in the early nineties, the Civic’s public perception has gone to something considerably short of sexy. Full Story.

Radical or traditional, there is a choice (Nov 01)

They bear the same name, even a similar high standard of build quality but their aim is totally different, writes Tony Conlon. It’s not so much that Honda’s new Civic is different in door configuration, its more of a case of the five door representing the future while the four door is somewhat more past than present. Full Story.

New Civic quite a different animal (Jan 02)
Available in 5-door hatch, 4-door saloon and now in a striking 3-door form, Honda’s new Civic is quite a different animal from its immediate predecessor, writes Hugh Maguire. Full Story.

Stream exceptionally good at its job (Jul 02)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say," writes Brian Byrne. And to these eyes, the Honda Stream is not beautiful. Indeed, it might even be odd-looking, though not anything like the same extent as is the Fiat Multipla, for instance.

A Civic for closet eco-fetishists (Aug 02)
When the Honda Civic hybrid comes on sale this side of the Atlantic next year, it won't be noticed much, writes Raymond Bernard. Because, unlike the Toyota Prius, world leader in commercialising the hybrid concept, the Civic hybrid looks just the same as any other Civic Saloon.

Stream flows serenely through a crowded life (Aug 02)
With such a wide choice of MPVs now available to the Irish market, buyers can be faced with quite a bewildering choice, writes Trish Whelan. Between small, compact and full-size, you really have to look hard at your lifestyle before picking one to suit.

ACCORD

Honda's Accord is a very refined affair (Jul 99) - Brian Byrne

An Accord for the upper class (Mar 03)
A spade is always a spade, writes Brian Byrne. And a Honda Accord has always been, well, a Honda Accord. Always a worthy car, but not one to start the juices flowing. Always a reliable car, because that's what Hondas are.

Moving up with the Accord (Apr 03)
It could so easily have backfired, sending us on a 90-mile, sometimes challenging route which would show up any flaw in a car, writes Trish Whelan. Instead, it showed just what the all-new seventh generation Honda Accord can do.

Accord S will appeal to the savvy (Jul 03)
While to my mind the Accord is certainly one of the classiest looking cars around, writes Trish Whelan, the 2.4- sport version stands out from the crowd with a deeper front air dam and side skirts for a sportier image.

Honda diesel whispers into town (Feb 04)
It may be late to the diesel party, writes Brian Byrne, but Honda has come up with a beauty in its first diesel engine produced entirely by the company.

A Honda with a deep tone (Jun 04)
Let's face it, diesels aren't at all as quiet as petrol engines, writes Brian Byrne, as some brochures and the press releases might try to convince us they are. But it's all relative, isn't it? They really have just got so much better.

CR-V

CR-V is the darling choice (Aug 02)
In fairness, Honda people have never made any grandiose claims for the CRV but then they don't really have to, do they? writes Donal Byrne. The CR-V is the darling choice of South County Dublin ladies who lunch because it is firstly a Honda and secondly is a vehicle that gives the impression that one is part of the County set. Its jeep-like looks endow it with a certain strength of presence but it is really an estate car that doesn’t look like one.

S2000

FCX

Honda dream power is a road runner
Honda has a vision of a hydrogen future, writes Brian Byrne. Not just for its cars, but for how we achieve all our energy needs. Starting with the home. The company has a vision of a house. With a solar panel roof that provides the power to 'crack' water into hydrogen fuel which can be used to power a fuel cell to generate electricity for the house's power and heat systems. And which could also be topping up the hydrogen fuel tank of the fuel cell-powered car in the garage.

Race-proven technology inspires the Honda S2000 (Nov 00) - Tony Conlon

GOLDWING

On a Wing and a prayer (Aug 01)

The passing of the year 2000 heralded the introduction to the world of the latest manifestation of the Wing, writes Tony Toner. As an indication of how far we have come in terms of cohesive design matched to function and reliability, Honda’s flagship motorcycle is here, the truly awesome GoldWing GL1800/6. Yes, you have read it correctly. Honda have stretched their ‘old’ 1500cc flat six to 1832cc, added their tried and tested fuel injection system to make available 117bhp and more importantly on a tourer, 123ft lb of torque @ 4,000rpm.
