Jazz hits the high note in Auto Express

18 July 2002: The Honda Jazz has won the Auto Express Car of the Year award, beating other new superminis like the Ford Fiesta, the VW Polo, and the Citroen C3 in a market that in the UK is worth 20% of all cars sold there, or six million vehicles.

The accolade is the third major award won by the Jazz, which has also been awarded two Japanese Car of the Year, and is the best-selling car in the Orient as the Fit.

The adjudicators gave the Jazz their top award primarily because of its ‘people packaging’ with innovative but simple methods of seat and luggage flexibility, as well as the technology of its engine whose dual spark-plug systems help the new 1.4-litre unit to achieve almost 49mpg on the combined cycle.

The Jazz is a contender for the Semperit Irish Car of the Year 2003, which will be decided by the members of the Irish Motoring Writers Association in November.
