Hydrogen-fueled generator from Ford, Ballard

9 August 2002: The world's first hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine-driven generator has been unveiled by Ford and Canadian fuel cell developer Ballard Power Systems Inc.

The device is described as a clean and attractive alternative to small turbines or combustion engines using other fuels.

The generator uses a standard 6.8-litre Ford production engine that has been modified for hydrogen use. It is seen as another interim product before such power generation becomes fuel-cell based more than petroleum-fuel based.
