21 March 2002: Hyundais entry into the supermini sector, the Getz, will go on sale in Europe in the autumn. It was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
The company expects around 80 per cent of production to be exported to Europe, where the supermini sector accounts for 30 per cent of sales in Western Europe.
The platform of the Getz is taken from Hyundais Clix sports concept car, seen at last years Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Getz will be available in three and five door versions, and from launch with 1.1 SOHC, 1.3 SOHC and 1.6 DOHC 16 valve engines. All will be available with a five speed manual gearbox, and the two larger engines with a four speed automatic. Next year a 1.5 common-rail turbo-diesel will join the range.
The Getz, meanwhile, will go on sale in Europe in the autumn.
