Hyundai unveils 'Camry-competitor'

31 August 2004: Hyundai has shown its next-generation Sonata, which is positioned against the likes of Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

It has grown bigger in every dimension, including the 2730 mm wheelbase which is a 30 mm stretch against the current Sonata.

At launch two engines are available: 2.0 and 2.4-liter petrol units, capable of 144 bhp and 166 bhp respectively.

The powertrains were developed in a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai.

The world debut is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show.
