16 April 2004: A new car company model which will not sell vehicles has been conceived by a firm of London consultants in conjunction with former Ford Europe boss Martin Leach.
Called IndeGo, the idea is to lease cars it will build in four small factories. The leasing would be for the whole life of the vehicle.
AT Kearney consultants envisage four different car lines to be built on the same platform, with frequent face-lifts to keep the design
fashionable. Powertrain development will be outsourced to suppliers and sales will be via the Internet. Delivery would be direct to customers.
The proposers say they will take the best business practices from successful companies in other industries such as RyanAir, Dell, and the Zara chain in the fashion industry.
