Jaguar might close plant

16 August 2004: Jaguar may have to consider closing one of its three factories because of disappointing sales, especially in the key US market.

The brand is said to be responsible for much of the 296 million loss suffered by the Ford Premier Automotive Group (PAG) in the second quarter of the year. The other brands are Volvo, Land Rover and Aston Martin.

The X-Type small Jaguar has not sold as well as anticipated, and the weak dollar has made it very difficult for European brands as a whole to make profits in the US, where some 45 per cent of Jaguar's production is sold.
