Lexus and Toyota at top of UK J D Power survey |
|
13 April 2001: The upmarket Lexus arm of Toyota headed the field in both the company and individual categories of the latest J D Power survey of car owners in Britain. The owners of two- and three-year-old cars was carried out by the JD Power information marketing company and BBC Top Gear magazine. Nearly 29,000 respondents were asked for their opinions under four categories: quality and reliability, vehicle appeal, ownership costs, and dealer service. Lexus emerged as the leading company and had three cars - including the LS400 (left) at number one - in the top 10. The Toyota Yaris came second and was followed by - you've guessed it - a Lexus, this time the GS300. The BMW 7 Series was fourth choice. Yet another Lexus, the IS200 (below), shared fifth spot with the Rover 75. In the company car table, Jaguar retained second place for the third consecutive year, while BMW improved to third place. Toyota was fourth. In fifth place was Skoda, whose position underlines its rapid improvement and increasing stature among the carmakers of the world, and performance car maker Porsche.Vehicle quality and reliability accounted for 41% of the customer satisfaction measurement, with 26% weighting attached to vehicle appeal, 18% to ownership costs and 16% to dealer service satisfaction.
