Jeep planning a smaller model

05 April 2004: Jeep is planning a small SUV aimed at the burgeoning leisure market, smaller than the current Cherokee.

It will be developed from a front-drive platform, possibly from Chrysler partner Mitsubishi. It is expected to offer 2- or all-wheel drive.

The unnamed vehicle is expected to debut in 2006 or early 2007 and will use styling cues from the two-door Compass concept that debuted at the 2002 Detroit auto show.
