Keohane fails to score at Knockhill washout
20 August 2001: At Knockhill in Scotland yesterday, where racing had to be cut short as a result of heavy rain, Cork's Michael Keohane fell victim to the extreme track conditions when he spun out of the 19th Round of the British F3 Scholarship while lying in second position.
The race, which had originally been cancelled by race organisers due to heavy fog in the morning, saw the 21 year old start from the second row of the grid and battling with the leading pack of eventual race winner Ernani Judice, Matthew Gilmore and Robbie Kerr.
However on lap 20 of 29, having just taken second position from series leader Robbie Kerr, the Meritus Racing driver was sent spinning into retirement when the rear tyre of his Ibstock Brick backed car lost traction over the slippery curbing on the exit of McIntyre corner.
Round 20 of the series, which was scheduled to take place in the afternoon, was cancelled when race officials declared track conditions to dangerous for the F3 series. Michael was set to start from the 3rd row of the grid having set the fifth fastest time in dry qualifying on Saturday.
The British F3 Championship moves to the high speed Thruxton circuit outside London next on 1/2nd September.
