Lexus 3-litre IS cars here

15 February 2002: Lexus has upgraded its IS series of cars with the addition of new safety features and improved driving characteristics to its 200 versions and the introduction of the IS 300 and SportCross to the range.

The two latter cars have five-speed automatic transmission and are powered by 3-litre straight-six engines from the GS series and sell for 60,995 euros and 64,265 euros respectively.

Prices for the IS 200 now start at 38,690 euros. Over 1,200 units have been registered in Ireland since it was introduced in 1999. Body rigidity has been improved and the engine characteristics further smoothened for 2002. There’s also a new front grille and smoked rear lights covers for cars with darker paint. There have also been changes to the dashboard, upholstery, and sound system detailing.

The new 3-litre cars have a power output of 214hp and a strong torque characteristic from 2000rpm-6000rpm. Both cars have full leather interiors.

A 2-litre version of the SportCross is expected in 2003.
