Next Lexus RX300 debuts
05 January 2003: DETROIT SHOW - A new Lexus RX300 makes its debut today at the Detroit Motor Show. The car loses the rather plain styling of the current SUV in favour of elements introduced in the design of the SportCross versions of the smaller IS series cars. There's a new five-speed automatic gearbox and a more powerful 3-litre V6 engine which complies with EURO IV emission regulations. The new gearbox is combined with a new drivetrain in which the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels is electronically controlled by the Traction Control (TRC), rather than the previous mechanical control by a viscous limited-slip differential. The new TRC system provides more precise control, providing smooth traction even when the throttle pedal is used roughly. |
