15 April 2003: The African Plains in Dublin Zoo was the venue for the offical launch of the Land Rover Team Challenge 2003 by David Harpur, Managing Director of Land Rover Ireland yesterday.

The challenge is a competitive event between companies with each company entering one or more teams of four for an offroad ‘trek’ competition.

Each team member will drive a specially prepared Land Rover Discovery through extreme off-road conditions, use state-of-the-art satellite navigation equipment and tackle a series of challenges which will test their ability to communicate and work as a team. No special physical ability is required to compete and the winning team will be good team players with excellent communication skills.

During the mont of May, companies will take part in a day-long series of activities. Each challenge will carry a number of points and the winners will be the team with the highest points total.

One team will go forward to the irish final from each week, along with the two overall runners-up with the highest points. The final winning team will win a week-long vacation to South Africa along with their partners.

This will be a full-day event. After competing, teams will travel to the nearby Brook Lodge Hotel for drinks, dinner and a stay overnight.

At the launch, David Harpur said ‘this event combines teamwork, a spirit of adventure and dedication to achievement - in short all the qualities that are needed to be successful in the corporate world today’.

Leonard Regan, Event Director, added: “Irish industry is competitive, resourceful and imaginative and this combination of elements should provide a very competitive event. We expect companies to fight hard for this fantastic prize.
