Maybach makes US public debut

4 July 2002: Four months after the brand's comeback at the last Geneva Motor Show, the luxury car Maybach is being presented to the US public for the first time in New York.

Maybach automobiles were among the elite in German and international automotive engineering together with Mercedes-Benz during the 1920s and 1930s.

The car is staking a claim to the high-end position in the luxury car segment, with the most powerful, highest powerplant in the world, the 550bhp Type 12 engine. It also features fully-reclining seats in the rear, a 600 Watt sound system with Dolby surround sound on every seat and the four-zone climate control system with two separate air conditioners.

The top Maybach 62 model's interior has an overall length of 2.68 metres and the distance between the front and rear seats is 1.57 metres. Standard items range from a DVD player to a TV receiver, from a refrigerated compartment to a cordless telephone with two handsets, and optional equipment gives Maybach customers over two million ways of equipping their high-end luxury car to their personal taste.

They'll have a choice of six Grand nappa leather colours and three types of fine wood, a range of 17 paint finishes, and additional extras include a proximity control system DISTRONIC, the access and locking system KEYLESS-GO, and a panoramic roof with electrotransparent glass or active seat ventilation.
