Mazda Tribute reaches Ireland

12 June 2001:The Mazda Tribute SUV has finally reached Ireland after a delay which the manufacturers say was due to unprecedented demand in other markets.

The vehicle comes in three versions - a 2WD 2-litre (not available until September) - a 4x4 with the same engine, and a 4x4 3-litre automatic. The price range is £24,370-£34,775.

In the 4x4 versions, the AWD is a 'select' type system which comes into play progressively when slipping on any currently driven wheels is sensed. The system can be locked into play to give a 50-50 AWD.

All versions here have aircon as standard as well as immobiliser and alarm. The safety specifications include standard ABS, and front and side airbags.

There are no current plans for a diesel powerplant, but Mazda Ireland's Dave Moran told IrishCar.Com last night that the market situation in Europe in relation to diesel power will eventually force the marque to produce a diesel version if they wish to remain competitive.

Speaking about the overall car market here, he expects that the out-turn for 2001 will be in the region of 175,000, and that the economic indications suggest a return to annual sales of around 200,000 units in coming years. BB
