25 February 2002: The world premiere of the Mazda MX Sport Runabout at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show will demonstrate the standards Mazda aims to achieve in small car lifestyle packaging and class-leading driving dynamics.
The MX Sport Runabout, which looks to have some design compatibility with parent company Ford's new Fiesta, measures 3,900mm in overall length and is 1,720mm wide, on a 2,500mm wheelbase. The car is 1,550mm high.
The new car is powered by a newly-developed 1.5-litre in-line four-cylinder DOHC S-VT engine, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
The car has the Mazda family face with its five-point grille and distinctive light cluster design, which echoes that of the Mazda6. The companys first European production is on schedule to begin at the start of next year, in Valencia, Spain.
