McCrae to drive Focus WRC at Punchestown

15 July 2002: World rally star Colin McRae and the Ford World Rally team are to compete at the World Rally Experience at Punchestown this Sunday, July 21. The 33-year old former world champion will be at the wheel of the Focus World Rally Car which took him to victory at the recent Acropolis Rally in Greece.

“To have him actually compete in Ireland in the Focus World Rally Car is a real thrill for us,” says Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford Ireland. “The event is a rare occasion for Irish fans to see the very cream of rallying in action.”

In Punchestown, McCrae will join a 40-strong entry over the 4km perimeter track around the racecourse. Colin’s father Jimmy is well known to Irish motorsport fans as a former winner of the Circuit of Ireland rally.
