M-B trucks for Tesco

25 February 2003: Mercedes-Benz, through their main dealer MUTEC, has won the contract to supply Tesco Ireland with 45 new Mercedes-Benz tractor units for its distribution fleet in Ireland.

Sixteen new Mercedes-Benz 1840 LS AXOR Euro 3 trucks have been delivered and are currently servicing the Tesco distribution network throughout the country. A further 29 will be included in the Tesco fleet over the coming months.

"We are delighted that Tesco choose the Mercedes-Benz AXOR trucks for its fleet in Ireland," says Matt Fagan, Chief Executive, Mercedes-Benz Ireland. "These 45 new trucks will provide Tesco with reliable, economical, durable and high torque engines. These key factors, matched by state-of-the-art safety features throughout the entire tractor unit, will ensure quality distribution for Tesco."

The Mercedes-Benz AXOR 6-cylinder engine outputs 400hp and is fitted with a manually/pneumatically shifted 9 speed direct drive gearbox. It has a Telligent brake system with ABS and ASR {Traction Control) and a Telligent Maintenance System. It has a 650L aluminum fuel tank, a Teflon fifth wheel and wheel nut safety flags.

The braking system includes an engine brake and a handbrake warning system that sounds if the cab door is open before applying handbrake. It also has cruise control, a differential lock and a night silent reverse alarm.

The AXOR workplace includes a full sleeper cab with a large bunk with numerous cup and bottle holders, storage and luggage compartments.
