New small Rover from India

29 December 2002: MG Rover is to launch a new small Rover car in 2003, based on the Indian manufacturer Tata's Indica platform. The car will be manufactured in India, by Tata Engineering and will be sold throughout the UK and Continental Europe by MG Rover&Mac226;s dealer network.

Details of the car have not been made public, but Kevin Howe, chief executive, MG Rover said it 'will reach a whole new customer base'.

Tata is a major conglomerate with diversified interests which include steel, communications, consumer products, chemicals, hospitality and IT as well as automotive production. The E9 billion group comprises 80 companies and has about 225,000 employees.
