Young drivers to protest at FF Ard Fheis
10 October 2001: MIJAG, the Motor Insurance Justice Action Group, is organising a National Car Protest at the Fianna Fail Ard Fheis this Saturday October 13th.
The protest to the Fianna Fail Ard Fheis will leave from the old Iceland Car Park on Main Street Tallaght at 7pm on Saturday. The protest will coincide with Bertie Ahern's speech to the Ard Fheis. A feeder protest from the South will leave from the main Cork/Dublin Road just past the Garage on the Dublin side of Cashel (County Tipperary) at 4pm.
Mick Murphy, the National Organiser of MIJAG said the minister responsible for Car Insurance in the Government, Noel Treacy TD, got the interim findings 18 months ago from the MIAB which indicating that the insurance industry was making far more profits from young drivers than any other group. "Since then he has given no indication of what he intends doing about this, if anything."
MIJAG believe that first time drivers of all ages should be properly trained and they should be assumed to be safe drivers until they prove otherwise. They should be charged the average premium of £480 as long as they remain accident free.
