Mini Cooper S has heated performance

21 March 2002: The new Mini Cooper S, soon to be available in Ireland, will have a 163bhp version of the 1.6-litre engine already used in the Mini One and Mini Cooper versions.

The ‘heated’ version will have a 0-60mph performance of 7.4secs, and the key overtaking band between 50-85mph is doable in less than seven seconds.

A 33.6mpg figure is quoted for the car, which will also have a 6-speed gearbox to make the most of the power on tap. The car comes with the Sports PLUS suspension option as standard, and the Cooper S rolls on 16” alloy wheels. There’s an option to order 17” wheels. The new car also has run-flat tyres as standard.

In addition to the usual ABS with EBD, the new car will feature Cornering Brake Control, anti-slip and traction control, and a dynamic stability control system is available as an option.

Specific interior details exclusive to the Cooper S include leather-trimmed wheel and gearshift, aluminium doorsill strips with ‘Mini Cooper S’ logo, and a footrest in stainless steel.

There will also be a ‘Chili’ version of the S which brings aircon, xenon headlights and a superior sound system into the frame at a special package value.
