MINI may exceed build expectations

9 May 2002: BMW could end up selling 25% more MINIs than they expected this, according to auto industry analysts, who predict a 125,000-unit outturn following the 27,691 cars sold in the first three months of the year.

The car went on sale in the US and Japan only in March, and there has been strong interest in the US market. Minis are planned to be on sale in 50 countries by the end of the year and the high-powered Cooper S will be launched in the summer.

BMW group sales for the first quarter increased 14 per cent to 10.7bn euros compared with the same period last year.
