26 July 2001: A new 1.4-litre D4D turbodiesel engine to be made available in the Toyota Yaris soon may also find its way into BMW's latest small car, the new Mini.

Although nothing is finalised yet, it is understood that discussions Between the two manufacturers are ongoing, and Toyota is keen to find other marques to take its D4D engines, which have been well received in the motoring press in their various incarnations.

If the Mini deal goes through, it will mark the first time a Mini-badged car will have had a diesel engine.
