Males up to 35 at most motorcycle risk

03 March 2004: Males, aged 25 to 35 are the group most at risk of being killed or injured in a motorcycle crash, according to the Irish Bulletin of Vehicle and Driver Statistics 2002.

Forty-nine motorcyclists and three pillion passengers were killed in 2003. Five motorcyclists have died to date in 2004.

A motorcyclist is likely to be involved in an injury crash in built up areas but more likely to be involved in a fatal crash in rural areas.

Over 6 out of 10 motorcycle fatalities between 1998 and 2002 occurred outside built up areas

Eight out of ten of motorcycle injuries between 1998 and 2002 occurred in built up areas.
