
6 May 2002: The largest Motor Show ever held in the Mid-West of Ireland takes place next weekend in Roscommon Town. It is expected to feature a least seven national launches of all-new cars including the Opel Vectra, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Superb, Suzuki Liana Saloon, Suzuki Alto, Peugeot 307SW MPV (above), along with two other major Irish launch surprises being announced on the Friday afternoon. The show will also have the first showing of the updated Mitsubishi Pajero.
Commencing at 6pm on the Friday evening and running until 10 PM, the opening hours for the Mid-West Motor Show on Saturday and Sunday will be 12.30 to 6PM.
New car ranges from the following nineteen franchises will be shown: Ford, Volkswagen, Opel, Fiat, Peugeot, Seat, Mitsubishi, Citroen, Mazda, Skoda, Suzuki, Audi, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Subaru, Saab, Isuzu, and Iveco with one or two others to be confirmed as late entries. In total, the organizers expect up to 200 new cars to be on display.
The venue is the Convent of Mercy grounds. The organizers forecast that 25,000 people will visit the Motor Show and the adjoining major Home and Garden exhibition.
Special attractions include a large display of classic and vintage cars being exhibited in Roscommon with many respective Midland and West of Ireland club members meeting up in Roscommon on the Saturday of the Motor Show weekend.
