NI safety roadshow coming to Dublin

5 September 2002: The National Safety Council in conjunction with AXA Insurance and the Police Service of Northern Ireland are bringing a 'Roadsafe Roadshow' to Dublin, to highlight to young adults what actually happens in a road crash situation.

To be held in the National Concert Hall on September 17th, the roadshow, produced by the Police Service of Northern Ireland in association with the Department of the Environment (NI), has already been shown to students in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.

The theatrical style show has been specifically designed to appeal to young people in its treatment of a very serious issue. Research has showed that the hard-hitting roadshow had a striking impact on the students attending in the north. As a result it was decided to run the same show in Dublin for transition year students. AXA Insurance is sponsoring the event.

Eddie Shaw, Chairman, National Safety Council explains " The aim of the roadshow is to encourage all young drivers and those about to commence their driving career to adopt a responsible attitude towards safe driving behaviour.

Over 2,000 transition year students from Dublin will attend the roadshow. They have been selected as they have either just started to drive or are about to commence their driving careers. Most of them would at this stage be learning to drive in their parent's cars and would not have their own car.
