Porsche to show new Carrera GT

10 February 2003: The production version of the Porsche Carrera GT will be on public display for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

The car has a carbonfibre body, and is powered by a 10-cylinder 612bhp 5.5-litre engine based on the unit developed by the company for motorsport.

The Carrera GT can do 0-62mph in 3.9secs, and can achieve double that speed in under 10 seconds.

No prices are yet available.

Meanwhile the new 911 GT3 will also be rolled out this summer, with a 381bhp engine that's more powerful than the previous version of the 3.6-litre boxer engine.

The car will accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, but a possibly more interesting figure is that it will accelerate to 125mph and decelerate back to zero in 19.7 seconds.

Prices in the UK for the car will be £72,750. No prices or availability for Ireland have been made available.
