Renault releases diesel version of Laguna II

2 October 2001: Renault Ireland has launched two turbodiesel versions of its very successful Laguna II series, in both Sport and Prestige models.
Both cars use use the latest generation common rail diesel technology, with the 1.9-litre engine being available in either 105bhp or 120bhp options.
The distributors forecast a large level of sales particularly for the more powerful version, which uses to variable geometry turbocharger to provide 35% more torque than the 105bhp engine in a system that effectively gives the unit 'two personalities' at different speeds. The maker claims the shift to higher output is seamless.
A new range of manual transmissions have been developed to transfer the power to the road efficiently. The 5-speed for the 105bhp car has improved linkage and better insulation from engine vibration, while a 6-speed associated with the more powerful car makes more efficient use of the enhanced torque characteristics of the engine.
Renault say the pedal action effort has been reduced by 10% in the diesel cars.
The more powerful engine will deliver in excess of 51mpg and does the 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds.
The Laguna II diesels cost £21,250 (105bhp hatchback), £23,250 (120bhp hatch) and £25,250 (120bhp Prestige). BB
